Those who against Thee fought Shall come to naught; Perils defeated, and sin’s dark night Flees in Thy life-giving, eternal light. All that is evil in Thy sight Shall be crushed and set aright; It shall be the sinner’s delight To behold Thy wondrous, sovereign might. The wicked shall not prevail; God’s truth and Word shall ever avail. Sin, with all its grief and woe, Shall be abolished—overthrown below. Christ’s blood and cross astonish still, Redeeming souls by sovereign will; Grace abounds where sin once reigned, And captive hearts are now unchained. O may that day come soon— We pray Thee, God Triune; We long to see Thee appear— O Lord, draw us near. Let faith endure, let hope arise, Till we behold Thee with our eyes; And in Thy presence ever dwell, Where joy unspeakable shall swell.
