I once had heard it to be true, That men are free within their dreams— Free to explore a world of vast potential, Where all lies open, and no door is shut. Yet when I grasped my heart’s deep sinfulness, I learned that I was not free, but dead. In that solemn moment, truth broke through the myth That man is free within himself. The Word then taught my soul of bondage— To sin, the world, and all that is corrupt. But by God’s grace, I came to know true freedom, A freedom found in Christ alone. By His Spirit, poured out in love, My heart was quickened unto life anew; And sin, once cherished, fled as a loathsome guest— Then, at last, I entered into rest. Near the cross, I fear no ill— No pain nor sorrow of this passing world; For there I find a faithful Saviour, Sufficient for my every need. Near the cross, my burdens are lifted; There lies a rest beyond all measure, A steadfast hope, both sure and strong, That shall endure forevermore.
