I love Thee, O Lord, for Thy death, And by Thy grace shall love Thee till life is over. My love for Thee is deep, yet not so deep As Thine, dear Lamb of God. I love Thee for the life Thou hast given, And pray that I may love Thee till death Turns this body to dust; For Thou hast never left me alone. I hate the sin that drove Thee to the Cross, And resent the wasted years without Thee. Yea, Lord, I detest the vain and worthless; I mourn many a time when flesh fails, And sin sets my heart against Thee. Oft I weep, for I have caused Thy pains. O Lord, cause this sinful soul To draw ever nearer unto Thee. Prepare me for that day when sin shall be no more, And I shall dine with Thee in heaven above, And drink of the wine of life. Thine be the glory of Thy redeemed; Mine shall be the victory through Thee. No words, nor lengthy speech, Nor friend, nor foe, can my place impeach; For Thou hast fully paid the price for me. And when at last my breath shall cease, And faith gives way to sight so clear, Let me behold Thy wounded hands, And know my Redeemer draweth near. Then shall my soul, once bound in clay, Rise clothed in light, forever free— To sing Thy praise unceasingly, Who lived, and died, and rose for me.
