All my days, I served an idol; the image in the mirror was that idol. I called good evil, and evil I called good; my heart cared not for the One who died. Not knowing that Hell was my destiny, the Devil convinced me this was not true. My life was a repeat of sin, day after day; when I looked inward, all was black as the night. My dark heart was pleased by sin; wickedness delights the unconverted heart. To be true, my heart only knew how to be depressed, displeased, and discounted. I searched for hope in all around me, but none brought hope to my hopelessness. It was on a September morning— there was at last a light at the end of my tunnel. It shone so bright in my heart; was this the hope I had been longing for? It was—it was that faithful King. God reached down and pulled me from the pit; the valley of despair is no longer my dwelling. He caused me to stand on the peak.
