I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dixie Quade, October 2nd, 2026. While there is sorrow in saying goodbye to someone who meant so much, there is also profound thankfulness to God for the life she lived, the testimony she bore, and the lasting influence she had upon the lives of so many, including my own.
Dixie played a very important part in my early Christian life. In 2012, she shared the Gospel with me, and through a conversation with her, I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour. For that, I shall always be thankful. Of all the things a person may do during a lifetime, few can compare with pointing another soul to Christ. The Lord used Dixie to do that for me, and her influence upon my life will therefore never be forgotten.
Dixie and her husband, Larry, were a tremendous encouragement to me during my early days as a believer. They showed me kindness, patience, Christian love, and genuine concern. They did not merely speak about their faith; they lived it. They supported my family through difficult times, and their care for us left an impression that has remained with me throughout the years.
Dixie was a deeply loving and caring woman, but above all, she was a woman who genuinely loved the Lord Jesus Christ. She spend more than forty years of missionary service alongside Larry in Wales, where she served faithfully in youth and children’s ministries and cared deeply for the people among whom the Lord had placed before her. Even when declining health restricted what she was physically able to do, she continued finding ways to serve the Lord and others. That is a testimony to the reality of the faith she professed.
When I think of Dixie, I cannot help but think of the countless lives that were touched through those many years of faithful service. Some influences in the Christian life are impossible to measure this side of eternity. A conversation, an act of kindness, a word of encouragement, a Gospel witness. God may use such seemingly ordinary things to produce consequences that endure forever. I know this personally, because I am one of those whose life was changed through Dixie’s willingness to speak about her Saviour.
Her passing therefore has a particular significance for me. The woman who once spoke to me about the Lord Jesus is now in the presence of the Lord Jesus. The Saviour whom she loved, proclaimed, and served for so many years is the Saviour with whom she is now at home.
The words of the Apostle Paul bring precious comfort at such a time, “absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). For those who know Christ, death does not have the final word. There is grief because someone dearly loved is no longer with us, but it is grief accompanied by hope. Dixie has finished her earthly course. Her years of labour and service are ended, but the fruit of that service continues in the lives of those whom she touched.
I will always be profoundly thankful that God, in His providence, brought Dixie and Larry Quade into my life. I shall never forget Dixie’s kindness to me, her encouragement, her love for my family, and above all, that conversation in 2012 when she shared with me the good news of Jesus Christ. Her part in my Christian testimony is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
I understand something of what you, as a family, are going through at this very difficult time. I lost my own mother to cancer in 2021, and I know the pain that such a loss can bring to a family. I also know that Dixie fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, and I can only imagine all that you have been through alongside her during that time. Please know that you are in my thoughts as you grieve her loss, and I pray that you will find strength, comfort, and peace in the days ahead.
My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with Larry, Marcy, Jaime, Larry, and the entire Quade family. May the Lord sustain you in the days ahead, strengthen you in your sorrow, and give you that comfort which He alone can give.
Dixie will be deeply missed. Yet I thank God for her life. I thank God for her faithful service. I thank God for her Christian testimony. And on a deeply personal level, I thank God that she cared enough about me to tell me about Jesus.
Until we meet again in the presence of our Lord, I shall remember her with gratitude and affection.
Thank you, Dixie, for pointing me to Christ.
