Be Faithful in the Little Things

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.

Colossians 3:23

Each year on March 1st, Christians in Wales and around the world remember Saint David (Dewi Sant), a man of humble service, quiet holiness, and unwavering faith. Living in the 6th century, David helped spread the light of the Gospel across a land of rugged hills and green valleys. His life reminds us that the strength of the Church is not found in grandeur or power, but in faithfulness and simplicity.

David’s famous last words to his followers were, “Be joyful, keep the faith, and do the little things.” These “little things”, acts of kindness, words of encouragement, daily prayers, and steadfast devotion, have built the spiritual foundations of Wales for generations. From hymn-singing chapels to modern churches filled with praise, the Christian flame has burned brightly in this land of song.

The Bible reminds us that small acts of faith have eternal impact. Luke 16:10 says, “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much.”

When we serve in quiet ways, praying for others, helping a neighbor, sharing the Gospel, we join in the same mission that shaped Saint David’s life. Like him, we become part of God’s ongoing story in Wales and beyond.

As we celebrate Saint David’s Day, let us remember that every small act of love is an offering to Christ. Let our hearts echo the Psalmist’s words, “I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And will glorify Your name forever.” (Psalm 86:12)

May we, like David, be steadfast in prayer, gentle in spirit, and courageous in faith, so that the message of Christ continues to shine through our lives, in both great and small ways.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the witness of Saint David and the faithful Christians of Wales through the centuries. Teach us to do the little things with great love. May our hearts be filled with joy, our faith kept strong, and our lives bring glory to Your name.

In Jesus’ name.

Amen.
