Proverbs 3:5–6
Bible-study exercise: Proverbs 3:5–6
Read Proverbs 3:5–6 carefully.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
Questions
Observation (v. 5): What positive command is contrasted with the warning against leaning on one’s own understanding?
Observation (v. 6): In how many areas of life is the believer to acknowledge the Lord, and what promise follows?
Interpretation: Does the promise that God will make one’s paths straight mean that life will always be easy?
Answer Key
The believer must trust in the Lord wholeheartedly. Trust in God is presented as the opposite of self-reliance.
God is to be acknowledged in all one’s ways. He promises to make the believer’s paths straight.
No. The promise concerns God’s faithful direction of a life submitted to Him, not freedom from hardship. A straight path is one rightly ordered according to His wisdom and will.
