Saved From Our Sins

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”

Matthew 1:21

The angel’s message to Joseph revealed not only the name of the coming Child but also His divine mission. The name Jesus means “the LORD saves.” Christ did not come merely to teach good morals, perform miracles, or improve people’s lives. He came to save sinners.

Notice that the verse says He would save His people from their sins, not merely from the consequences of sin. Many people want freedom from guilt, fear, or trouble, but they do not want to turn from the sin that causes those things. Jesus came to do a deeper work. Through His death and resurrection, He provides forgiveness, cleansing, and the power to live a new life.

This truth should encourage every believer. No sin is too great for the Saviour’s grace. When we fail, we can come to Him in repentance and find mercy. It should also challenge us to live in a way that honours the One who saved us. Since Christ gave Himself to deliver us from sin, we should not willingly cling to the very things from which He came to rescue us.

Today, thank God that Jesus is not only a Saviour from judgment but also a Saviour from the bondage of sin.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins. Help me to trust Him fully, walk in obedience to Him, and live a life that brings honour to His name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. A prayer of a righteous person, when it is brought about, can accomplish much.
