(8:3). ravaged the assembly. Saul was like a wild animal in his rage against the assembly. He had an intense hatred for the assembly.
(8:4). announcing the glad tidings of the word. The preaching of Christ to all nations.
(8:26). the angel of the Lord. God does on occasions use angels in the work of evangelism. An angel guided Cornelius to Peter in Acts 10:1-8.
(8:26). The same is desert. Likely to be the road to Desert Gaza (old city, destroyed in 93 B.C.). At the time of writing the road was inland from Gaza.
(8:27). Ethiopian. Ancient Nubia, south of Aswan.
(8:27). Candace. A hereditary title of Queens of Ethiopia.
(8:35). Prior to Jesus’ arrival, the Jews interpreted Isaiah 53 as pertaining to the Messiah. However, this interpretation changed when Christians associated the prophecy with Jesus of Nazareth, leading the Jews to then view Isaiah 53 as either a reference to Isaiah himself or to the people of Israel, whom they saw as a beacon for the nations. Isaiah 53 is about the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah.
(8:40). Azotus. In the Old Testament known as Ashdod. 20 miles north of Gaza.
